Current Projects
The GWES Research department is a new addition to the GWES team. Currently we are working on two research projects:
1. First Nations Jurisdiction in Education is a project commissioned by the First Nations Education Steering Committee. The purpose of this project is to initiate the community consultation process regarding the establishment of a Community Education Authority that would be responsible for all the participating Gitxsan and Wet'suwet'en Band operated K-12 schools.
TASKS:
- a) Literature Review & Summary Report
- b) Creation and administration of a survey tool to be completed by key education authority individuals
- c) Final Presentation and report based on the findings of the literature review and the survey results to be presented at the Community Symposium on November 29, 2005.
2. First Nations Post-Secondary Institution Funding and Best Practices is project commissioned by the Indian Studies Support Program. The purpose of this project is to identify the barriers that exist as a result of the lack of funding available to First Nations post-secondary institutions, and to identify the successful practices used at the institutions in an attempt to secure sufficient and reliable funding in the future.
TASKS:
- a) Literature Review & Summary Report
- b) Development of a rigorous survey tool to be completed by the recognized First Nations post-secondary institutions in British Columbia.
- c) A final report based on the literature review, survey tool results, and the identified best practices to be completed by December 15, 2005.
Both of these projects began in September 2005 and will be completed by the middle of December 2005.
